Much like Mary Bailey’s love for 320 Sycamore, I’ve had my eyes on this house for a long time. It certainly stands out among the rest on this street. The tenants on the lower level have left much of the house unchanged, including the rotten front porch, which is probably what led to the house being condemned by inspectors.
Some remarkable carpentry in the attic stairs. Today’s building inspectors probably don’t see it that way. And for good reason; they’re pretty scary to maneuver, especially in darkness.
This house was originally the estate of William Cassler of Cadillac. Don’t know much more about it, other than it’s currently for sale.
This house was a rather decent place to live, but the residents did not take care of them, and little problems soon added up to big ones, bringing the city building code officials to kick them out and declare them condemned. It’s becoming a growing problem everywhere in Michigan.
This former men’s lodge theater was abandoned after a college town bar moved in downstairs and subsequently bought the entire building. Other parts of the lodge are being converted into apartments while spaces like this are rented out to fraternities.
